What we do

In 2012 our local authority announced that it was closing its Saturday morning music centre at Marlwood School, Alveston.  Thanks to the vision and energy of a small group of parents a charitable trust was set up over the summer and Saturday morning youth music carried on at Marlwood.  Since becoming independent, Thornbury Area Youth Music Trust (TAYM) has gone from strength to strength.

Today, we hold our classes in  Manorbrook School, Thornbury.  More than 100 children aged from  4-18 make music with us on Saturday mornings in term time.  Groups, taught by qualified Tutors, range from early years to Senior Orchestra.

Our innovative Let’s Play scheme is unique in the region, introducing the next generation of youngsters to “proper” musical instruments.  With over 70 under-10s enjoying music on a Saturday, the future for youth music in our area is bright.

TAYM is run entirely by Trustees and volunteers.  With the decline in musical opportunities in primary and secondary schools, it is really important to us that all the young people in our area have affordable access to music on their doorstep without having to travel further afield.

If you would like to help us in giving the children of our area the wonderful opportunities offered by local music classes - as a trustee, volunteer or funding partner - please get in touch.  We would love to hear from you.
