Great musical experiences in a fun, supportive and welcoming environment

We welcome all students  between 4 and 18 to join us in any of our groups and at any stage of their musical development.  Our sessions run at Manorbrook Primary School on Saturday mornings during term time. The children are involved in various musical lessons as described below. For most musicians, there is also a defined break time where they can socialise with friends - and check out our tuck shop!!!

If you’d like to come along and see what what we do on a Saturday morning and try out one of our sessions then contact us

Early Years - ages 4-7

With the emphasis on having fun in a welcoming supportive environment, your child will enjoy a wealth of music-making activities with our dedicated Early Years tutor.  We tailor the activities and classes to a level that is appropriate for the age and ability of the children. The activities allow the children to develop their skills in singing, exploring sounds and listening. We use tuned percussion instruments such as handbells and boom-whackers.  Older children can then progress to learning the recorder.  We aim to give children the confidence to perform from the very beginning.  At the end of each term: the classes perform a show-case concert for their parents and families.

Let’s Play - learn a real instrument from age 6

Children choose which instrument they would like to learn - there is the choice of flute, clarinet, saxophone trombone, cornet, violin and cello.

The classes are typically between 6-9 children - large enough for children to have fun and support and encourage each other but small enough for tutors to provide one-on-one support too.  The emphasis is on having fun, a supportive and welcoming environment and acquiring a sound musical foundation.

Instrument technique is learnt alongside playing pieces as a group. The progress students make in this environment encourages everyone.  By the end of the first term the group is ready to perform its first piece in a showcase concert.

Instrument Lessons

TAYM also offers individual instrument lessons with our specialist tutors on a Saturday morning.  Lessons are in pairs or individual one on one tutoring.  This personalised coaching is the ideal next step for students who have progressed through the Let’s Play scheme and are now playing in our training groups.

Training Groups

Our training groups are perfect for students who  have been playing an instrument for a white  and are learning to read music.  TAYM will give you lots of support to develop skills in specialist string or wind/brass groups and the training orchestra.  The music repertoire is varied and fun.  There are parts for all abilities so everyone can contribute.

Senior Groups

Our senior groups are for young players from Grade 3 or 4 standard and beyond.  In string and wind/brass groups as well as a full orchestra students will be introduced to a wide range of music and enjoy learning it among friends.  Coaching is provided by professional specialist tutors in strings, wind and brass encouraging students to  get the most from their playing. Our tutors work with the students as individuals and decide with them on  the right time to progress to a Senior Group.
